The All Kachin Students and Youth Union (AKSYU) is an organization of pro-democracy activists who fight against the military regime and for the restoration of democracy and the creation of a genuine Federal Union of Burma. The AKSYU believes in self-determination for the peoples of Burma and is struggling to protect and promote the rights of the Kachins.

In the backlash and repression of the Burmese Junta against the pro-democracy movement following the students uprising in Burma in 1988, thousands and thousands of innocent students, youth and civilians were massacred. In the aftermath of this, thousands more citizens have been forced to flee to neighboring countries.

Among them were Kachin students and youths and on the 5th of August 1996 some of their number founded the All Kachin Students and Youth Union in India. Since the beginning the Union had been struggling peacefully for democracy by cooperating with the exiled democratic alliance groups. The AKSYU is currently a member of the Students and Youth Congress of Burma (SYCB) and the Nationalities Youth Forum (NYF). The AKSYU uses only nonviolent means of political defiance.

In 1998 the All Kachin Students and Youth Union was able to establish a branch in the Thai-Burma border area with Thailand based Kachin youths and students. Currently the AKSYU is working on Indo-Burma border, Sino-Burma and Thai-Burma border. We hope to gain the cooperation of the international community in supporting the Burmese peoples and applying pressure on the Burmese military regime.
